Before you buy your Curaçao eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Curaçao: FLOW data for Willemstad, the beaches and the cruise pier
Install our eSIM Curaçao plan at home and you’ll be on FLOW’s 4G/LTE network before your bags reach the carousel at Hato.
Signal is solid across Willemstad, on the Handelskade, on the floating Queen Emma Bridge over to Otrobanda and in the bars of Pietermaai. Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel on the south coast are well covered too. Drive west and it changes. In parts of Christoffel National Park, on the cliffs at Shete Boka and in a few coves near Westpunt, you can drop to one bar or lose signal entirely. Download an offline map before that drive.
Coming ashore from a cruise? The Mega Pier is a short walk from the bridge, and the eSIM works there as it does in town. It covers Curaçao only, though, and won’t connect in Aruba, Bonaire or Sint Maarten. If the trip goes on to Punta Cana, add our Dominican Republic eSIM for that leg. For one day ashore, 1 GB is plenty.
You get data only, with no Curaçao number and no calls or SMS. Call home on WhatsApp or FaceTime and leave your own SIM on for texts and bank codes. Setup is short. There’s no ID at checkout, the QR code comes by email, and you scan it on Wi-Fi before turning on Data Roaming for the eSIM line. Running low later? Top up the same eSIM from your dashboard or the Esimy app.

Curaçao Travel and Connectivity Guide
What mobile data is like in Willemstad, at the beaches and out west
Coverage areas
Willemstad: Punda, Otrobanda, Scharloo, Pietermaai and the Handelskade waterfront by the Queen Emma Bridge. Curaçao International Airport at Hato and the Mega Pier cruise terminal. The south-coast hotels and beaches around Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel. At the western end of the island, Westpunt village and beaches such as Grote Knip and Playa Lagun usually have a connection, but signal thins the further west you go and is patchy inside Christoffel National Park and along the north coast.
Network
Connects to FLOW (formerly UTS), part of Liberty Latin America, on fast 4G/LTE. Willemstad, the airport, the cruise piers and the resorts along the south coast are well covered. Out west it’s a different story. Expect weak spots inside Christoffel National Park, on the cliffs at Shete Boka and in some coves around Westpunt. Nothing is throttled by Esimy; real-world speed is down to the signal, your spot on the island and the phone you use.
eSIM Curaçao: how much data you need
• 1–3 GB: a cruise stop or a few days in Willemstad with maps, WhatsApp and the odd photo upload
• 5–10 GB: a week or two with a rental car, beach days, Instagram and video calls home
• 20 GB: a month on the island, remote work from a Pietermaai café, or two phones sharing one hotspot
Tourist highlights
The painted facades of the Handelskade and the Queen Emma pontoon bridge, which swings open for passing ships; the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue in Punda with its sand-covered floor; the restored mansions of Scharloo and the bars of Pietermaai; snorkeling at Playa Lagun and Grote Knip; waves crashing into the inlets of Shete Boka; an early-morning climb of Christoffelberg, the island’s highest point; flamingos on the salt pans near Sint Willibrordus; a boat trip to uninhabited Klein Curaçao.
Apps that help
Google Maps handles driving directions well; download the island for offline use before heading to the far west. Most visitors rent a car, as buses outside Willemstad are infrequent. WhatsApp is the app you’ll open most, because dive shops, car-rental desks, beach restaurants and taxi drivers take bookings and share locations there. Taxis wait at the airport and the big hotels; agree the fare before you get in. Cards work in most hotels, restaurants and supermarkets, and US dollars are widely accepted alongside guilders.
Roaming tips
Curaçao belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands but isn’t part of the EU, so roam-like-at-home doesn’t apply. Dutch and other European plans usually bill it as roaming outside the EU; check the rate before you fly. Install the Esimy eSIM at home, turn Data Roaming off on your home SIM and on for the eSIM line, then make the eSIM your mobile-data line. Your own number keeps working for calls and texts. Flying in via Amsterdam? Our eSIM for the Netherlands covers the Schiphol end of the trip.
Why travelers choose Esimy Curaçao
- Online on FLOW as soon as you land at Hato, with no SIM desk to find
- No ID or registration; the QR code is emailed the moment you pay
- Validity starts at first connection in Curaçao, so you can install it before you fly
- Hotspot allowed for a laptop or a second phone
- Top up the same eSIM from the dashboard or the app while your home SIM keeps your number for calls and texts
Best time to visit
- December to April: high season, when Europeans and North Americans come to escape winter; book rental cars and dive trips early
- May to September: hot and dry, with steady trade winds and calm water on the leeward beaches
- October to January: the rainy season, though rain mostly falls as short showers; Curaçao lies south of the main hurricane belt and direct hits are rare
- Carnival: parades through Willemstad in the weeks before Lent

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Curaçao
Is an eSIM better than a Curaçao SIM card?
For a holiday, usually. Buying a local SIM card means a stop at a phone shop after you land, and your home SIM has to come out of the phone. The eSIM goes on before you fly and your own SIM stays put. Staying for a season, or need a Curaçao number for work? Then a local SIM card makes more sense and can work out cheaper.
I’m on a Caribbean cruise. Will it also work in Aruba, Bonaire or Sint Maarten?
No, it stops working when you leave Curaçao. At the Mega Pier it works as it does anywhere in Willemstad, but it won’t connect once you sail on to Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten or other islands. If your trip also takes in Punta Cana or Santo Domingo, our eSIM for the Dominican Republic covers that stop. At sea, keep Data Roaming off on your home SIM, since ship networks bill separately and often at high rates.
Which phones work with it?
Any eSIM-capable phone that isn’t locked to a carrier, including recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models. If you’re not sure about yours, check the list of supported devices.
Can I share my data through a hotspot?
You can. Tethering is allowed, which helps when two of you share a rental car: one phone runs the hotspot, the other the map. It burns through data, so go for 10 GB or more if you’ll do it daily.
Is there an eSIM Curaçao unlimited plan, and which size fits my trip?
- 1 GB (7 days): a cruise stop or a couple of days of maps and messages
- 3 or 5 GB (30 days): a typical week or two with a rental car, beach photos and a few video calls
- 10 GB (30 days): lots of social media, or two people sharing a hotspot
- 20 GB (30 days): long stays and remote work. It’s our biggest plan; we don’t sell unlimited data for Curaçao, but you can top up.
Can I top up if I run out?
Straight onto the same eSIM, from your Esimy dashboard or the app. There’s nothing to reinstall and no new QR code to scan.
How do I install and activate an eSIM in Curaçao?
- Pay online (no ID needed) and the QR code arrives by email right away.
- On Wi-Fi, scan it from your phone’s mobile or cellular settings under Add eSIM. Doing this at home saves time at Hato.
- After landing, turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line and choose it for mobile data. The APN sets itself.
- Your plan’s days start counting from that first connection in Curaçao.
Does the eSIM Curaçao plan work at Westpunt and in Christoffel National Park?
Partly. Signal thins out the further west you drive. Around Westpunt village and the main beaches such as Grote Knip and Playa Lagun you’ll usually get a connection, but expect gaps inside Christoffel National Park, on the north-coast cliffs at Shete Boka and in quieter coves. Download Curaçao in Google Maps before you leave Willemstad, and if you’re hiking Christoffelberg, tell someone your plans.
Will it work at Curaçao International Airport in Hato?
Yes, FLOW covers the airport. Get the eSIM installed at home, switch on Data Roaming for its line after landing, and you can message your rental company or hotel from the arrivals hall.
Is this a FLOW or a Digicel eSIM?
It’s FLOW. The eSIM connects to FLOW (formerly UTS), part of Liberty Latin America, on fast 4G/LTE. It doesn’t use Digicel, so if that’s the eSIM you were searching for, ours isn’t one.
Can I get a Curaçao eSIM with a phone number?
No. There’s no local number on this plan, and it doesn’t do calls or SMS. Call over WhatsApp or FaceTime (plenty of restaurants and dive shops on the island take bookings on WhatsApp anyway), and leave your home SIM switched on in dual-SIM for texts and bank codes.
What is the best eSIM for Curaçao?
Most visitors only need maps and WhatsApp, and a data-only plan on FLOW handles both well. Ours runs on FLOW’s 4G/LTE network, which is strong in Willemstad, at Hato and along the south-coast resorts. Pick anything from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days; the days only start when you first connect on the island. Hotspot is allowed, and top-ups land on the eSIM you already have.
