Before you buy your Caribbean eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Caribbean: data for 14 islands, on shore and in port
Esimy’s eSIM Caribbean plan puts 14 islands and countries on one eSIM, which helps in a sea where a day trip can mean a new country. Sail the Grenadines down to Grenada, hop around the Leeward Islands, or spend a cruise week calling at Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Barbados, and the same eSIM picks up each island’s network.
On 13 of the islands it runs on Flow. The exception is the Dominican Republic, where it connects to Altice. Digicel isn’t included anywhere, so if Flow has no signal on a far beach or up a rainforest trail, there’s no second network to fall back on.
At sea, between islands, you’ll have no signal. On a cruise, the ship’s own mobile service is separate and expensive; this eSIM starts working again in port, once your phone sees the island’s land network. Validity begins at first connection on any covered island.
Data costs more here than in most of our regions because island roaming is expensive, so plans stop at 5 GB. Plenty of travelers lean on hotel Wi-Fi and use the eSIM for maps, messages and bookings, and you can top up the same eSIM if it runs low. There’s no local number (the plan is data only), and no ID check.

Caribbean Travel and Connectivity Guide
Island networks, sea crossings and cruise days, explained
Countries covered
Networks by island
• Dominican Republic: Altice (formerly Orange Dominicana)
• Jamaica: Flow
• Barbados: Flow
• Antigua and Barbuda: Flow
• Saint Lucia: Flow
• Saint Kitts and Nevis: Flow
• Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Flow
• Grenada: Flow
• Dominica: Flow
• Cayman Islands: Flow
• Turks and Caicos: Flow
• British Virgin Islands: Flow
• Anguilla: Flow
• Montserrat: Flow
Digicel isn’t included on any island. On the Flow islands, Flow is the only network the eSIM can use, so where Flow has no signal you won’t either. Speeds are 4G/LTE, and Esimy doesn’t slow them down.
Island hopping and sea crossings
To your phone, every hop between countries is a border crossing, even when both islands run on Flow. Sail from Union Island down to Carriacou and the eSIM leaves St Vincent’s network for Grenada’s on its own. The short flight or ferry from Antigua to Montserrat works the same way. The ferry from Basseterre to Charlestown doesn’t count: St Kitts and Nevis are one country, so the network stays the same. Out on open water there’s no signal at all. Back in range of land, the eSIM latches onto the island’s network without any help from you, though it can take a moment after arrival. Validity keeps running through every crossing.
Cruise days
Between ports, the only mobile signal around is usually the ship’s own service, a separate and expensive network that isn’t part of this plan. Keep mobile data off at sea, or buy the ship’s Wi-Fi. When you dock or anchor and the phone sees the island’s land network, the eSIM works as it does on shore. Compare your itinerary with the island list first: Nassau, San Juan and St Thomas are common cruise calls that this plan doesn’t cover.
Data usage tips
Roaming deals with island networks are expensive, so this plan comes in three sizes only and costs more per gigabyte than most of our regions.
• 1 GB (7 days): a cruise week of port days, or a short break with maps and WhatsApp
• 3 GB (30 days): ten days to two weeks based on one or two islands, with photos and some social media
• 5 GB (30 days): a longer island-hopping trip or a sailing charter, with a few video calls
Need more? Top up the same eSIM. Set photo and video backups to Wi-Fi only and leave streaming for the hotel or villa connection.
Not covered
Check your route against the list above. The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao and Guadeloupe each have their own Esimy plan. Aruba, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Cuba, Haiti and Martinique aren’t covered at all. Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin aren’t on the list either, which matters if you reach Anguilla by ferry from Marigot: the eSIM starts working once you land at Blowing Point. Arriving in the BVI through St Thomas works the same way.
Setting up your Caribbean eSIM
Buy online with no passport check, and you’ll find the QR code in your email a moment later. Install it on Wi-Fi before you fly or sail. On the first island, switch Data Roaming on for that line and choose it for mobile data; the APN configures itself. Your validity begins the first time it connects on a covered island. A Caribbean SIM card from a local shop only works on that one island, so on a multi-island trip you’d be buying a new one at each stop.
Why travelers choose Esimy Caribbean
- 14 islands on one eSIM, so a cruise or a charter doesn’t mean a new SIM at every stop
- Works in port as soon as the phone sees the island’s network
- The clock starts at first connection on a covered island, not at purchase
- Bought online with no ID, and the QR code is in your inbox within moments
- Small plans you can top up on the same eSIM when they run low

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Caribbean
Does it cover the Bahamas, Puerto Rico or Aruba?
Those three aren’t on the plan, and neither are Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, Guadeloupe, Martinique, the US Virgin Islands, Cuba or Haiti. Some of them have their own Esimy plan: the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao and Guadeloupe.
Would separate eSIMs for each island cost less?
Often, if you’re only visiting one island: a one-country plan such as our Jamaica eSIM or Saint Lucia eSIM usually costs less. The Caribbean plan earns its keep from the second island onward, and on a cruise or a sailing trip you reach that point fast.
Which phones are compatible?
Recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones and Google Pixels, plus most other eSIM-capable phones, as long as the phone isn’t locked to a carrier. Our list of supported devices has the details.
Can I use it as a hotspot on a boat or at a villa?
You can share it with a laptop or a friend’s phone. On a charter, one phone as the hotspot for weather apps and marina bookings works well. Keep an eye on the balance, though: 5 GB shared between two or three devices goes quickly.
Can I add more data to the Caribbean eSIM?
Yes, in the Esimy app or your account dashboard, and the data goes onto the eSIM already in your phone. With plans capped at 5 GB, topping up is how you cover a longer trip.
How much data do I need for two weeks in the Caribbean?
3 GB usually covers two weeks if you have Wi-Fi where you sleep: maps, WhatsApp, the odd photo upload. Choose 5 GB if you’ll be on a boat or in a rental without reliable Wi-Fi, or if you make video calls. The 1 GB plan lasts 7 days, so it only suits a short break or a one-week cruise. Past 5 GB, top up the same eSIM.
Is there a phone number with the eSIM?
There isn’t. You get data only, so no Caribbean number, calls or texts. WhatsApp and FaceTime handle calls and messages, and your home SIM stays on for SMS codes.
Can I use the Caribbean eSIM on a cruise?
In port, yes; at sea, no. Once the ship docks or anchors and your phone sees the island’s land network, the eSIM works normally. Between ports the only mobile signal is the ship’s own service, which is separate and charged at its own high rates, so keep mobile data off or use the ship’s Wi-Fi. Check the itinerary too: Nassau, San Juan and St Thomas aren’t covered.
Will the eSIM keep working if I sail from St Vincent to Grenada?
Yes, once you’re in range of land again. Somewhere between Union Island and Carriacou, St Vincent’s Flow network fades and Grenada’s takes over, and the eSIM handles that switch without you. Mid-channel there’s no signal, so download weather, charts and offline maps before you leave the anchorage. Your validity simply carries on.
Which network does it use in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica?
In the Dominican Republic it connects to Altice, the network that used to be Orange Dominicana. Jamaica runs on Flow, like the other 12 islands on the plan. Digicel isn’t included on any of them.
Which islands does the Caribbean eSIM cover?
Fourteen: the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Montserrat.
What is the best eSIM for the Caribbean?
The one that covers every island on your route, so read the list before you buy. A plan that skips one stop leaves you without data there. Esimy Caribbean covers 14 islands and countries, runs on Flow everywhere except the Dominican Republic (Altice), and comes in 1 GB, 3 GB and 5 GB sizes that you can add to later without a new QR code. Digicel isn’t part of it.
