eSIM Grenada for St George’s, the south-coast anchorages and Carriacou

Esimy’s eSIM Grenada plan uses FLOW’s 4G/LTE network everywhere in the country, Carriacou and Petite Martinique included.

Grenada is small, but it isn’t flat. Along the south-west coast, where the airport, Grand Anse and most hotels are, the signal is reliable. Drive inland over Grand Etang and it thins out among the rainforest ridges, then comes back as you drop towards Grenville on the east coast.

Arriving by sea? Cruise passengers are covered at the St George’s terminal and around the Carenage. On a yacht, the anchorages at Prickly Bay, True Blue and Hog Island usually reach a mast on shore, but the signal fades as you head out, and on open water between islands there’s none. Sailing north into the Grenadines takes you to Union Island, which belongs to St Vincent, so this plan stops working there.

For a week of maps and WhatsApp, 3 GB is usually plenty. Because the plan is data only, you won’t get a Grenadian number or ordinary calls and texts, so leave your home SIM switched on for messages from your bank. If the trip runs long, add data to the same eSIM from the app.

Grenada Travel and Connectivity Guide

Good signal on the south-west coast, gaps in the rainforest hills

Coverage areas

Most visitors spend their days in Grenada’s south-west corner, and that’s where FLOW is strongest. Maurice Bishop International at Point Salines, Grand Anse, Morne Rouge, Lance aux Épines and the marinas at True Blue and Prickly Bay all get a solid 4G/LTE signal. So does St George’s, around the Carenage and up the hill to Fort George. Heading north, the west-coast road through Gouyave to Sauteurs is mostly fine. Inland it’s patchier. The road over Grand Etang climbs into cloud forest, and between the crater lake and the far side of the ridge you can lose signal for a while. On Carriacou, Hillsborough and the main villages are covered, while Petite Martinique is smaller and quieter.

Network

Connects to FLOW on fast 4G/LTE. FLOW is the Cable & Wireless network in Grenada, and the eSIM never hops to another one. Speed isn’t capped on our side, so your handset and the local signal decide it. Boats in the south-coast bays usually pick up a mast on shore, though it weakens the further out you anchor. Mid-channel on the ferry to Carriacou, expect a gap.

Sizing your eSIM Grenada plan

A gigabyte costs more in Grenada than on a European plan, so size it to the trip rather than the brochure.
• 1–3 GB: a cruise day in St George’s, or a week at a Grand Anse hotel where the Wi-Fi does most of the work
• 5–10 GB: ten days to two weeks with a hire car, a Carriacou day trip and maps on every drive
• 20 GB: a month or more on a boat in Prickly Bay or the St George’s lagoon, with a laptop tethered to your phone

Tourist highlights

Start underwater. In Molinere Bay, Jason deCaires Taylor’s ring of children stands on the seabed of the Underwater Sculpture Park, and snorkellers see it as well as divers. Walk up to Fort George for the view over the Carenage, then give Grand Anse a long, lazy day. Grand Etang has its crater lake and, a hike away, the Seven Sisters waterfalls. Up north, Belmont Estate makes tree-to-bar chocolate and River Antoine still makes rum with a waterwheel. Gouyave is worth two visits in one day: the nutmeg station in the afternoon, Fish Friday street food after dark. Keep a day for the Osprey ferry to Carriacou, Paradise Beach and Sandy Island.

Apps that help

Google Maps handles the roads, which are narrow, steep and driven on the left. Download Grenada for offline use before you cross Grand Etang. Visitors need a local driving permit, and hire companies usually arrange it when you collect the car. Public minibuses run numbered routes out of the St George’s bus terminal and stop wherever you flag them down. They’re cheap and quick, if a little lively. Water taxis also cross between the Carenage and Grand Anse. There are no taxi meters, so agree the price up front. Dive shops, restaurants and drivers all book on WhatsApp. Prices are in Eastern Caribbean dollars, pegged to the US dollar, and US notes are accepted in most tourist spots.

Roaming tips

Grenada falls outside the roam-like-at-home deals on European and UK tariffs, and most North American carriers charge a daily fee here. Install your Grenada eSIM before you leave. Once you land, turn Data Roaming on for the eSIM line only (your home SIM stays off) and select the eSIM for mobile data. Flying in via Barbados? Our Barbados eSIM covers the connection. It’s a separate purchase, because each Esimy plan works in one country only.

Why travelers choose Esimy Grenada

  • Online at Maurice Bishop International while you wait for your bags
  • The same plan works on Carriacou and Petite Martinique
  • No passport scan at checkout, and Apple Pay or Google Pay works as well as a card
  • Validity counts from your first connection in Grenada, so installing early costs nothing
  • Share data from your phone to a laptop or tablet on board

Best time to visit

  • January to May: the dry season, with Grenada Sailing Week early in the year
  • June to November: hurricane season. Grenada sits near the southern edge of the storm belt, which is why so many yachts spend the season here, but storms can still reach it
  • August: Spicemas, the island’s carnival, starting with J’ouvert before dawn
  • Around the start of August: the Carriacou Regatta, with sloop racing and a festival in Hillsborough

eSIM FAQs

Common questions about using eSIM in Grenada

Which phones work?

Any unlocked phone with eSIM support. Most recent iPhones qualify, and so do plenty of Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models. Check yours on our list of supported devices before buying.

Can I share the data with a laptop on the boat?

Hotspot and tethering are both allowed, and at anchor that’s how a lot of crews keep a laptop online. Watch the total, though, because software updates and laptop video calls get through gigabytes fast.

Is there an unlimited eSIM Grenada plan, and how much data will I use?

There’s no unlimited plan; 20 GB over 30 days is the largest. Grenadian data isn’t cheap, so start small. A cruise day fits in 1 GB, a week of maps and messages in 3 GB, and a fortnight with regular video calls in 5 to 10 GB. Misjudged it? Top up.

Can I add data if I run low?

Any time, in the Esimy app or on your esimy.net dashboard. The extra data lands on the eSIM already in your phone, with no second QR code.

How do I install and activate it?
  • Buy online (card, Apple Pay or Google Pay). Nobody asks for ID. Your QR code is emailed straight away.
  • Scan it on Wi-Fi from the eSIM menu in your phone’s settings, at home or at your hotel.
  • In Grenada, enable Data Roaming on that line and make mobile data use it. The APN sets itself, and validity begins the first time it connects.
Does it cover Carriacou and Petite Martinique?

It does, because both islands are part of Grenada. Coverage is good around Hillsborough and the main villages on Carriacou, and lighter on Petite Martinique and the far beaches. The Osprey ferry from St George’s takes around two hours, and you’ll lose signal for part of the crossing.

Is there signal in Grand Etang and the north of the island?

Partly. Gouyave, Sauteurs, Grenville and the other coastal towns have usable signal. The rainforest around Grand Etang is the weak spot, and on the hike to the Seven Sisters falls or along the ridge trails you may have one bar or none for a while. Save an offline map before you go.

Will I have data when I land at Maurice Bishop International?

You should, as long as the eSIM is already installed. Turn Data Roaming on for that line once the plane is down. FLOW usually appears within a minute or two, long before you reach the front of the immigration queue at Point Salines.

Which network does it use in Grenada?

FLOW, run by Cable & Wireless. The eSIM connects to FLOW’s 4G/LTE network and stays there.

Should I get a Grenada SIM card instead?

For a stay of a few weeks, the eSIM is simpler, since there’s no shop visit or passport check and your own SIM stays in the phone. Spending the whole hurricane season on a boat here is different. A local prepaid SIM card from a phone shop in St George’s or Grand Anse may work out cheaper over several months and gives you a Grenadian number, though you’ll usually need ID to register it.

Does the eSIM Grenada plan include a phone number?

It’s data only, so there’s no Grenadian number and no ordinary calls or SMS on this line. WhatsApp and FaceTime carry calls over the data, and in dual-SIM mode your home SIM keeps receiving texts.

What is the best eSIM for Grenada?

One that works where you’ll actually be. For most visitors that’s St George’s and the south-west coast, plus perhaps a day on Carriacou. Ours runs on FLOW’s 4G/LTE in all of those places. The smallest plan is 1 GB for a week and the largest is 20 GB over 30 days, all of them data only. Need a Grenadian number? Then a local SIM is the better choice.
