Before you buy your Jamaica eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Jamaica: 4G data on FLOW for the north coast, Kingston and the roads between
An eSIM Jamaica plan from Esimy puts your phone on FLOW’s 4G/LTE network as soon as you turn on Data Roaming at Sangster or Norman Manley.
Most visitors land in Montego Bay and go straight to a resort. Resort Wi-Fi tends to be fine in the lobby and much weaker at the beach bar or in a far wing, and that’s where mobile data earns its keep. FLOW’s signal holds along the north coast, across Seven Mile Beach in Negril, through Ocho Rios and around Kingston. It turns patchy in the Blue Mountains, in the Cockpit Country and on some hill roads between the coasts, so save an offline map before a long drive.
Expect data and nothing else. There’s no Jamaican number on the plan and it can’t send SMS or make ordinary calls, so use WhatsApp or FaceTime to ring home. Leave your regular SIM active in dual-SIM for the one-time codes your bank texts you.
The plan works in Jamaica and nowhere else. On a cruise, the other ports of call need their own cover; if the ship stops in Puerto Plata or Punta Cana, our Dominican Republic plan handles that day ashore. There’s no ID step when you buy, and the QR code lands in your email straight away, so you can scan it on home Wi-Fi days before the flight. Running low mid-trip? Top up from the app.

Jamaica Travel and Connectivity Guide
Signal along the coast roads, and where it fades inland
Coverage areas
The north-coast tourist belt is where FLOW is most dependable: Montego Bay and the Hip Strip on Gloucester Avenue, the resorts running east through Falmouth and Runaway Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril from Seven Mile Beach round to the West End cliffs. Kingston and New Kingston are well covered, as are both international airports. In Port Antonio and Treasure Beach you’ll normally have a usable connection in the town itself. Inland, it’s patchier. Up in the Blue Mountains and across the Cockpit Country you can drop to one bar, or to nothing for a few minutes at a time.
Network
Connects to FLOW, the network run by Cable & Wireless Jamaica, on fast 4G/LTE. It’s the only network this eSIM uses. In the towns and along the main coast roads it handles maps and video calls without fuss. Up on the Blue Mountain Peak trail, around Holywell and in the river valleys behind Port Antonio, expect long gaps. Esimy doesn’t throttle anything, so real speed comes down to the signal where you’re standing and the phone in your hand.
How much data an eSIM Jamaica plan needs
• 1–3 GB: a cruise call at Falmouth or Ocho Rios, or a week at an all-inclusive where you’re mostly on resort Wi-Fi
• 5–10 GB: one or two weeks moving between Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, with maps on every drive and a few video calls
• 20 GB: a month based in Kingston, with the laptop running off your hotspot most days
Tourist highlights
Climbing Dunn’s River Falls in a chain of hands behind a guide; sunset from the cliffs at Rick’s Café in Negril, and the long sweep of Seven Mile Beach; the Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road in Kingston, then an evening at Devon House; bamboo rafting on the Rio Grande and a swim in the Blue Lagoon near Port Antonio; jerk pork and chicken at the roadside pits of Boston Bay; a pre-dawn hike up Blue Mountain Peak to watch the sun come up; a night boat trip on the Luminous Lagoon near Falmouth; quiet guesthouses and fishing boats at Treasure Beach.
Apps that help
Google Maps works well for driving (Jamaica drives on the left), but save Jamaica as an offline area before you head inland. Knutsford Express runs air-conditioned coaches between Montego Bay, Kingston, Ocho Rios, Negril and other towns, and you can book seats online. Route taxis are shared cars on fixed routes, cheap and used mostly by locals; licensed ones have red plates. For airport runs and resort trips, most visitors use a pre-booked transfer or a JUTA tourist taxi. Drivers and guesthouses usually sort out pickups on WhatsApp, so have it working before you land. US dollars are accepted in most tourist areas, though change often comes back in Jamaican dollars.
Roaming tips
No roam-like-at-home deal reaches Jamaica, so most UK and EU plans charge roaming here, and many US and Canadian carriers sell a daily international pass that adds up over a week. Once the Esimy eSIM is installed, it comes down to two settings. Data Roaming stays off on your home SIM, the eSIM line gets it switched on, and the eSIM becomes your mobile-data line. Calls and texts to your usual number still get through. Connecting through Miami or another US airport? Our eSIM for the United States covers the layover.
Why travelers choose Esimy Jamaica
- FLOW 4G/LTE ready by the time you reach baggage claim at Sangster or Norman Manley
- Nothing to show at checkout: no passport scan, no registration form
- Days start on your first connection in Jamaica, not on the day you buy
- Run a hotspot for your laptop or a friend’s phone
- Need more? Top up from the dashboard or the app and keep the same eSIM
Best time to visit
- Mid-December to April: the dry, busy season; resorts fill up around Christmas and Easter, so book early
- May and June: quieter, with lower room rates, a warm sea and the odd shower
- June to November: hurricane season, with September and October usually the wettest months; take travel insurance seriously
- July: Reggae Sumfest brings big crowds to Montego Bay

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Jamaica
Will it keep working when my cruise leaves Jamaica?
Only while you’re in Jamaica. The piers at Falmouth, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios are covered, and so are most excursion stops along the north coast. Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Nassau aren’t included, and it won’t connect at sea. Sailing from Miami or Fort Lauderdale? Our USA eSIM covers the days around the departure port.
Should I buy an eSIM Jamaica plan or a Jamaica SIM card when I arrive?
- Jamaica SIM card: find a phone shop or kiosk, register it (usually with your passport) and swap out your own SIM. You get a Jamaican number, and over a stay of several months it usually costs less.
- Esimy eSIM: bought and installed before you fly, no ID, data only, and your own SIM never leaves the phone.
If you need a Jamaican number for work or local banking, the local SIM is the right call.
Which phones work?
Unlocked phones with eSIM support, such as recent iPhones and Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel models. Phones bought on a contract are sometimes carrier-locked, so check that first, then look for your model on our list of supported devices.
Is hotspot allowed?
Tethering is allowed. It’s handy when the resort Wi-Fi crawls in your room and you want the laptop online, though a day of laptop use can eat a few gigabytes.
How much data do I need for a week in Jamaica, and is there unlimited data?
For a week, 3 or 5 GB suits most people, especially at an all-inclusive with Wi-Fi in the rooms. If you’ll be driving the coast every day with music streaming in the car, go for 10 GB. We don’t offer unlimited data in Jamaica. The biggest plan is 20 GB for 30 days, and you can top up if that runs low.
Can I add data later?
Yes, in the app or on your Esimy dashboard. The data goes onto the eSIM already in your phone, so you won’t need a second QR code.
How do I set up the eSIM before flying to Jamaica?
Buy online (there’s no ID step) and the QR code comes by email within moments. Scan it at home on Wi-Fi from your phone’s eSIM settings. After landing, switch on Data Roaming for that line and set it as your mobile-data line. The APN fills itself in, and your 7 or 30 days start from that first connection.
Does an eSIM Jamaica plan work in the Blue Mountains and the countryside?
Not everywhere. Towns and main roads are generally fine, but the Blue Mountains are a known weak spot: on the trail to Blue Mountain Peak and around the coffee farms you can go a long while without signal. The Cockpit Country is similar, and so are stretches of the hill roads linking the two coasts. Port Antonio and Treasure Beach have signal in town. It’s the drive there that can go quiet for a while.
Will it work at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay?
It does. FLOW covers Sangster International, where most holiday flights land, and Norman Manley International in Kingston. Switch on Data Roaming for the eSIM once you’re off the plane, and you can message your transfer driver while you wait for your bags.
Is there a Digicel eSIM for Jamaica, or does this one use FLOW?
No Digicel here. This eSIM connects to FLOW (Cable & Wireless Jamaica) and stays on FLOW for the whole trip. If it has to be a Digicel eSIM, that’s one to buy from Digicel directly.
Is there a Jamaica eSIM with a phone number?
Not from us. This one is data only, so there’s no Jamaican number and no regular calls or SMS. WhatsApp and FaceTime calls run fine over the data, and your home SIM can stay active alongside it for texts and verification codes.
What is the best eSIM for Jamaica?
For a holiday, a data-only plan is usually enough, because WhatsApp handles the calls and most of what you’ll do is maps and messages. Ours connects to FLOW’s 4G/LTE, which covers Sangster, Norman Manley and the north-coast strip from Negril to Ocho Rios. Sizes run from a 1 GB plan lasting a week up to 20 GB over 30 days. Need a Jamaican number for the trip? Then a local SIM suits you better (see the SIM card question below).
