Before you buy your Saint Lucia eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Saint Lucia: what to expect between Hewanorra, the Pitons and Rodney Bay
With an eSIM Saint Lucia plan installed before you fly, your phone joins FLOW’s 4G/LTE network on the tarmac at Hewanorra or George F.L. Charles.
That matters more than it sounds. Hewanorra sits at Vieux Fort on the southern tip, and the drive to Castries or Rodney Bay takes well over an hour on a road that climbs and bends nearly the whole way. It helps to have the map open and your driver a WhatsApp away. Coverage in St Lucia is good in the north and in the towns. The valleys along the west coast, the Gros Piton trail and the rainforest interior are patchier.
Cruise ships dock in Castries, and some smaller ones anchor off Soufrière; the plan works at both. It covers Saint Lucia only, though. Once your ship or yacht heads out, the signal fades as the coast drops behind you, and Martinique, Barbados and Guadeloupe each need their own plan.
Expect data, not a number. There’s no St Lucian number, and regular calls and SMS won’t work, so WhatsApp and FaceTime do the talking while your own SIM stays active for texts. Most week-long stays get through 3 GB or less, and you can add more later.

Saint Lucia Travel and Connectivity Guide
Two airports, a mountainous spine and a few quiet valleys
Where the eSIM Saint Lucia signal holds
The north is the easy part. Castries and its cruise piers at Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage, Rodney Bay, Reduit Beach, Gros Islet and Pigeon Island all have solid FLOW 4G/LTE, and so does the area around George F.L. Charles Airport at Vigie. Vieux Fort and Hewanorra in the south are well covered too. In between, the island is steep and forested. The west-coast road through Anse La Raye and Canaries winds through valleys where the signal comes and goes, and the Atlantic side past Dennery and Micoud has its quiet patches. Soufrière town is fine. Up on the Gros Piton trail, or deep in the rainforest reserves, service gets patchy.
Network
Connects to FLOW (Cable & Wireless) in Saint Lucia on fast 4G/LTE, and only to FLOW. We don’t cap speeds. On Reduit Beach you’ll normally have enough for a video call. In a hillside villa above Soufrière it depends on which way the slope faces, so test it when you arrive and fall back on the villa Wi-Fi if the bars are low.
Data usage tips
Data on the island costs noticeably more than in Europe, which is why the small plans make sense for short stays.
• 1–3 GB: a cruise call in Castries, or an all-inclusive week with its own Wi-Fi
• 5–10 GB: a week or two split between Rodney Bay and Soufrière, with maps for every drive and the odd video call
• 20 GB: a month or longer, for example on a yacht that arrives with the ARC and stays on for the winter
Tourist highlights
Gros Piton is the big one, a steep few hours’ climb from Fond Gens Libre with a huge view at the top. Afterwards, swim at Sugar Beach, right between the two Pitons. Soufrière also has the mud baths at Sulphur Springs, often called the drive-in volcano, plus Diamond Falls and its botanical gardens. Up north, Pigeon Island has fort ruins and a lookout, and Marigot Bay is made for a slow afternoon. On Friday night it’s the street party in Gros Islet or the fish fry at Anse La Raye. Saturday morning belongs to the Castries market. For something different, ride a zip line or the aerial tram through the rainforest canopy.
Apps that help
Google Maps works across the island, but download St Lucia for offline use before taking the coast road south. Driving is on the left, and visitors need a local driving permit, usually arranged through the car hire company. Minibuses run fixed routes out of Castries, frequent in the north and slower further south. Taxis work on fixed fares rather than meters. The Hewanorra to Rodney Bay run is the priciest trip most visitors take, so agree the fare before the bags go in. Plenty of people skip the road and take a boat down the coast to Soufrière. Guides, drivers and restaurants mostly confirm on WhatsApp. Bills come in Eastern Caribbean dollars, and almost everyone takes US dollars too.
Roaming, and onward trips to Guadeloupe or Barbados
Saint Lucia isn’t covered by EU or UK roam-like-at-home, so European home plans charge roaming here, and US and Canadian carriers usually sell a daily pass. With the Esimy eSIM installed, switch Data Roaming on for that line, keep it off on your home SIM, and set the eSIM as your data line. Near the northern tip, phones sometimes catch a signal drifting across the channel from Martinique, another good reason to leave home roaming off. This St Lucia eSIM covers Saint Lucia only. Taking the ferry north? Our Guadeloupe eSIM is a separate plan for that leg. Connecting through Bridgetown, the Barbados eSIM covers the layover.
Why travelers choose Esimy Saint Lucia
- Data from the moment you land, at Hewanorra or George F.L. Charles
- No forms or ID at checkout; card, Apple Pay and Google Pay accepted
- The clock starts on your first connection in St Lucia, not when you pay
- Hotspot works for a laptop or a travel companion’s phone
- More data goes onto the same eSIM from the app
Best time to visit
- December to May: dry, and the busiest stretch of the year; the ARC sailing fleet finishes in Rodney Bay in December
- July: Carnival takes over Castries
- June to November: hurricane season, with more rain, fewer crowds and lower room rates

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Saint Lucia
Is a Saint Lucia SIM card cheaper?
Over a long stay it can be, and it comes with a St Lucian number. You’d need to find a phone shop in Castries or Rodney Bay, show ID and take your own SIM out. For a holiday of a week or two, the eSIM skips all of that and your home SIM never leaves the phone.
Which phones are supported?
Unlocked, eSIM-capable phones, which covers most recent iPhones and a good share of Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. The full list of supported devices is on our site.
Is hotspot allowed?
It is. Share the connection with a laptop, or with whoever you’re travelling with.
Can I top up the same eSIM?
From the Esimy app or your dashboard, whenever you like. No new QR code is needed, because the data goes onto the eSIM you’re already using.
What’s the setup, and when does the plan start?
Pay online, then open the QR code we email you and scan it from your phone’s eSIM settings while you’re on Wi-Fi. Doing it at home the day before is easiest. When you land, enable roaming on the Esimy line and switch mobile data over to it. The APN configures itself, and the validity period starts then, not when you bought it.
Which plan suits a week in St Lucia, and is there unlimited data?
For a week, 3 GB covers maps, WhatsApp and photo uploads. Take 5 GB if you video-call home most nights, or 10 GB if you’re working from the villa. Unlimited isn’t on offer here; 20 GB for 30 days is the top size.
Will the eSIM Saint Lucia plan work on a cruise or on the ferry to Martinique?
In port, yes: Castries and Soufrière are covered. At sea it fades as you move away from the coast, and it won’t work in Martinique, Barbados or on any other island. L’Express des Îles runs from Castries to Martinique and on to Guadeloupe, and our Guadeloupe eSIM is a separate plan for that end of the trip.
Does the eSIM Saint Lucia signal reach Soufrière and the Gros Piton trail?
Soufrière town has signal, and so do most hotels around it, although hillside rooms vary. On Gros Piton there’s coverage at the start and in places on the way up, with gaps between. The rainforest trails inland and parts of the west-coast road through Canaries are similar, so download an offline map before heading south.
Does it use FLOW or Digicel in St Lucia?
FLOW. The eSIM runs on the Cable & Wireless network in Saint Lucia and stays on it for the whole trip.
Can I get an eSIM St Lucia plan with a phone number?
Not with Esimy. The plan is data only, without a Saint Lucian number, calls or texts. Your home number keeps working on the other line, and WhatsApp covers calls with drivers and guesthouses.
I’m landing at Hewanorra. Will the eSIM work straight away?
Provided it’s installed, yes. Once you’re on the ground, allow the eSIM to roam and FLOW appears within a minute or two. The same goes for George F.L. Charles in Castries, where most regional flights from Barbados and the other islands come in. From Hewanorra you face the long transfer north, so message your driver before you leave the terminal.
What is the best eSIM for Saint Lucia?
The one that fits how you’ll use it. For most holidays that means maps for the drives, WhatsApp and some photos, all of which a data-only plan covers. Ours connects to FLOW’s 4G/LTE, and the sizes run from 1 GB (a week) to 20 GB (30 days). It won’t give you a local number.
