Before you buy your Cayman Islands eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Cayman Islands on FLOW for Grand Cayman, cruise days and the sister islands
On Grand Cayman, an eSIM Cayman Islands plan from Esimy uses FLOW’s 4G/LTE network, and it’s working by the time you clear immigration at Owen Roberts International Airport.
Cayman is expensive, and mobile data is no exception. Expect to pay more here than for a European or Asian destination. If you’re a cruise passenger with one afternoon in George Town, we’d point you to the smallest plan, or simply to café Wi-Fi. A week on Seven Mile Beach with dinners to book and dive shops to message is where a mid-sized plan earns its keep.
Coverage is good across the western half of Grand Cayman, where most visitors stay. On boat trips to Stingray City and Starfish Point it drops in and out. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have far fewer people and quieter coverage, so download maps before a dive trip there.
You don’t get a Cayman number. This is a data-only plan, with no calls or texts, so WhatsApp or FaceTime does the calling and SMS stays with your home SIM. A Cayman Islands SIM card usually means a shop visit and showing ID, which is fine for residents; for a holiday, a Cayman Islands eSIM is simpler. It works in Cayman only, so if Jamaica is next, add our Jamaica eSIM.

Cayman Islands Travel and Connectivity Guide
Strong on Grand Cayman, quieter on the Brac and out on North Sound
Coverage areas
Grand Cayman is about 22 miles long and largely flat. Most visitors stay on its western side, which FLOW covers well: George Town and the cruise tender docks, the hotels and condos along Seven Mile Beach, Camana Bay and West Bay. The eastern districts have fewer homes and fewer masts, so the odd weak patch on the coast roads to East End and round to Rum Point wouldn’t be a surprise. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman lie roughly 75 to 90 miles to the northeast, with only a couple of thousand residents between them. Coverage there is lighter, particularly on Little Cayman away from the airstrip and the resorts. Offshore, signal falls away as the land shrinks behind you.
Network
Cable & Wireless operates FLOW, and FLOW’s 4G/LTE is the only network this eSIM connects to. If a FLOW signal drops, the eSIM has no second operator to fall back on. On the western side of Grand Cayman that rarely matters. Speeds are good enough for video calls and uploading dive footage, and we don’t throttle anything at our end. The weak spots are the water and the sister islands. At the Stingray City sandbar, signal is hit and miss, and a dive boat heading for the North Wall or round to the East End can be off the network for a while.
Data usage tips
• 1–3 GB: a cruise stop in George Town, or a long weekend on Seven Mile Beach where the hotel Wi-Fi does the heavy lifting
• 5–10 GB: a week or two of maps, restaurant bookings, WhatsApp with dive shops and photo sharing
• 20 GB: a month-long stay, remote work from a condo, or a family sharing one phone’s hotspot
Tourist highlights
Stingray City is the trip almost everyone books: a boat out to a shallow sandbar in North Sound where southern stingrays glide round your legs. Many tours add Starfish Point, a calm, shallow beach near Rum Point where red cushion sea stars lie on the sand (look, but leave them in the water). Seven Mile Beach is the long public beach on the west side, and the sunken USS Kittiwake sits off its northern end for snorkellers and divers. Inland, the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and the Crystal Caves fill a morning. Downtown George Town and the Harbour Drive waterfront are a short walk from the tender docks. Serious divers head to Bloody Bay Wall off Little Cayman. On Cayman Brac, the Bluff rises over the eastern end, and the wreck of the MV Captain Keith Tibbetts lies offshore.
Apps that help
Google Maps works well on Grand Cayman, and the island is small enough that you won’t stay lost for long. Taxis, not ride-hailing apps, are how most visitors get around. Fares follow a set schedule rather than a meter, so agree the amount with the driver first. The public buses are minibuses that run from the depot in George Town, cheap and frequent along West Bay Road. Driving is on the left. Cayman Airways flies the short hops to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman; keep your booking saved offline. Dive shops and boat operators often confirm pickup times on WhatsApp. US dollars are taken almost everywhere alongside the Cayman dollar, and cards work in most shops and restaurants.
eSIM Cayman Islands vs roaming from home
A home plan usually charges for Cayman by the day or, worse, by the megabyte, and a week of either adds up. Check your provider’s rate before you leave. On the phone, turn your home SIM’s data roaming off, switch it on for the Esimy eSIM, and choose the eSIM for mobile data. If you arrive by cruise ship, wait until you’re on the tender before relying on it, since your phone may cling to the ship’s network until you’re closer to shore. The plan covers the three Cayman Islands only. For Kingston or Montego Bay, use our Jamaica eSIM, and for a connection in Miami, our US eSIM.
Why travelers choose Esimy Cayman Islands
- FLOW 4G/LTE across George Town, Seven Mile Beach, West Bay and Camana Bay
- Working at Owen Roberts International while you wait at the baggage belt
- Validity counts from the first connection in Cayman, not from purchase
- No ID at checkout, and the QR code is emailed within moments
- Add data from the app if a dive week runs longer
Best time to visit
- December to April: the dry season, with calm seas off the west coast and the highest hotel rates
- Early May: Batabano, the Cayman carnival, with costumed road parades on Grand Cayman
- June to November: hurricane season, quieter and cheaper, with the greatest risk from August to October

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Cayman Islands
Which phones support it?
Your phone has to be unlocked and support eSIM. Most iPhones from the last few years qualify, as do many Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones, and the list of supported devices shows exactly which.
Is tethering allowed?
It is. Share the data with a tablet or your travel companion’s phone, but know that a laptop running updates will burn through a small plan in no time.
Can I top up?
Any time. Use the app or log in to your Esimy dashboard, and the extra data is credited to the eSIM that’s already installed, so there’s no new QR code.
How much data should I buy for a week, and is unlimited available?
No unlimited plan is sold for the Cayman Islands; 20 GB is the top. A week with decent hotel Wi-Fi works on 3 GB, or 5 GB if you’re out on boats and posting a lot. Two weeks, or a condo with poor Wi-Fi, points to 10 GB.
How do I set it up?
- Checkout takes cards as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay, and no ID is needed.
- Open the QR code from your email and scan it on Wi-Fi, under your phone’s mobile or cellular settings.
- After landing in Cayman, turn roaming on for the eSIM and make it your data line.
- There’s no APN to type in, and the plan’s days run from that first connection.
Is an eSIM Cayman Islands plan worth it on a cruise stop?
Only if you’ll actually use data ashore. Ships anchor off George Town and tenders bring passengers in to the downtown docks. A walk round the shops, an hour on Seven Mile Beach or a Stingray City excursion needs no more than the 1 GB plan, and lots of cruise passengers skip the eSIM entirely and use café Wi-Fi. If you do buy, set it up before you board, not on the ship.
Is there coverage on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman?
Near the settlements and resorts, yes, but expect a patchier signal than on Grand Cayman. Little Cayman has only a couple of hundred residents, and Bloody Bay Wall is offshore, so dive days there are mostly offline. Dive resorts on both islands generally offer Wi-Fi.
Will I have signal at Stingray City and Starfish Point?
Possibly, but don’t plan on it. Stingray City is a sandbar out in North Sound near the reef, and the signal there depends on where the boat stops. Starfish Point is a beach on the north coast near Rum Point, so you’re back on land there, though it’s a quiet corner of the island. Save the posting for when you’re back at the dock.
Which network does the Cayman Islands eSIM use?
Just FLOW, on its 4G/LTE network.
Do I get a Cayman phone number?
There’s no Cayman number on this plan. It carries data only, so phone calls and SMS aren’t included, but WhatsApp and FaceTime work over the data connection.
Does the eSIM Cayman Islands plan work at Owen Roberts International Airport?
Yes, the airport sits on the edge of George Town and has FLOW coverage. Install the eSIM before you fly and turn on Data Roaming for that line after landing; it’ll be ready before you reach the taxi desk.
What is the best eSIM for the Cayman Islands?
One that connects to the local network and is sized for how long you’ll be there. Ours runs on FLOW over 4G/LTE, with plans as small as 1 GB for a week or as large as 20 GB for a month, none of which starts counting until the eSIM first connects in Cayman. Since data costs more here than in most places, the best choice for a short trip is usually a small plan rather than a big one.
