Before you buy your Antigua and Barbuda eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Antigua and Barbuda: coverage ashore, at anchor and on Barbuda
Switch on an eSIM Antigua plan as you walk out of V.C. Bird International and you’re on FLOW’s 4G/LTE network. Barbuda belongs to the same country, so the plan keeps working there too.
Signal is dependable in St John’s and around the Heritage Quay cruise piers, along Dickenson Bay and down the west coast to Jolly Harbour. In the south, English Harbour and Falmouth are fine for messaging a charter skipper or posting the view from Shirley Heights. It gets thin on the rainforest stretch of Fig Tree Drive and in some Atlantic coves. Barbuda has far fewer masts, so expect gaps once you leave Codrington.
Plenty of visitors arrive by sea. A few miles offshore the land signal fades, and the plan covers Antigua and Barbuda only, so it won’t connect at the next island. Sailing on? Our Guadeloupe eSIM and Barbados eSIM handle those legs.
For a cruise call, 1 GB is plenty, and a quiet week fits in 3 GB. You won’t get an Antigua number, as the plan is data only, with no calls or SMS. Use WhatsApp for calls and keep your home SIM on for texts.

Antigua and Barbuda Travel and Connectivity Guide
Good on the coasts and in the harbours, sparse on Barbuda and at sea
eSIM Antigua coverage, island by island
Antigua is compact and fairly low-lying, so FLOW reaches the places most visitors spend their days. That means St John’s and the cruise piers at Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay, the hotel strip at Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, the west coast past Jolly Harbour to Ffryes and Darkwood beaches, and the yachting harbours at English Harbour and Falmouth. The hills of the south-west are patchier, especially on the rainforest section of Fig Tree Drive and the trail up Mount Obama. On the Atlantic side, Half Moon Bay and Devil’s Bridge can be weaker than the west coast. Barbuda is the real exception. Outside Codrington coverage is sparse, and the pink sand beaches or the frigate bird colony across the lagoon may leave you offline for a while.
Network
Connects to FLOW over fast 4G/LTE. That’s the Cable & Wireless network, and the eSIM sticks to it on both islands. We don’t slow it down. On a hotel balcony at Dickenson Bay a video call usually works fine, while on the empty side of Barbuda it may be one bar, or none.
Data usage tips
• 1–3 GB: a cruise day in St John’s, or a long weekend if you lean on the hotel Wi-Fi. Gigabytes are pricier here than in Europe, so a short stay rarely justifies more
• 5–10 GB: a week or two at a resort or on a charter, with video calls home and uploads from the beach
• 20 GB: a month on the island, a season working on a yacht in English Harbour, or a laptop running on hotspot
Tourist highlights
English Harbour comes first for most people. Nelson’s Dockyard there is a restored Georgian naval yard and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and on Sunday evenings the party at Shirley Heights above it brings a steel band, a barbecue and the view over both harbours. In St John’s, browse Heritage Quay and the public market. Snorkel Cades Reef, or meet the rays at Stingray City. The Atlantic side has Devil’s Bridge, a sea arch, and the wide curve of Half Moon Bay, with the ruins of Betty’s Hope sugar estate inland. Barbuda, a ferry ride away, has the pink sand beach and the frigate birds of Codrington Lagoon.
Apps that help
Google Maps handles the roads well enough, but save Antigua offline before driving Fig Tree Drive or heading over to Barbuda. Traffic keeps left, and car hire desks arrange the temporary local driving permit you’ll need. Taxis aren’t metered, so confirm the fare before you get in. Minibuses leave from the bus stations in St John’s and cost little, though they thin out in the evening. Chartering a boat? Download your charts in Navionics or a similar app before you cast off. Restaurants, boat operators and villa managers mostly confirm things on WhatsApp. You can pay in Eastern Caribbean or US dollars almost anywhere.
Roaming tips
On most European and UK plans Antigua falls into an expensive roaming zone, and many North American plans charge by the day. Install the eSIM at home. On landing, choose it for mobile data, switch its Data Roaming on, and leave roaming off on your usual SIM. Calls and SMS to your usual number still come through, including the airline’s check-in link.
Why travelers choose Esimy Antigua
- FLOW 4G/LTE from the arrivals hall at V.C. Bird, and on Barbuda too
- Checkout takes card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and no ID
- The 7 or 30 days start when it first connects in Antigua, not on the day you pay
- Hotspot allowed, handy for a laptop on a charter boat
- Run low and you add data to the same eSIM in the app
Best time to visit
- December to April: dry, breezy and the main season; the Charter Yacht Show fills English Harbour and Falmouth in early December
- Late April to early May: Antigua Sailing Week, with the Classic Yacht Regatta just before it
- Late July to early August: Carnival in St John’s
- June to November: hurricane season, wetter and quieter, with lower hotel prices

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Antigua and Barbuda
Which phones does it work on?
If it’s unlocked and supports eSIM, it should work. That covers recent iPhones and most current Galaxy and Pixel models. Check our list of supported devices before you buy.
Can I share the data with my laptop?
Hotspot and tethering are allowed, so a laptop on a charter boat or a tablet for the kids can share your data.
Is there unlimited data, and what size should I buy for a week?
We don’t sell an unlimited plan for Antigua; the largest is 20 GB for 30 days. A week of maps, WhatsApp and photos usually fits in 3 GB, and 5 GB leaves room for video calls. A single cruise day needs 1 GB at most. Go for 10 or 20 GB only if you’re staying a month or working online.
Can I top up my Antigua eSIM if I run out?
Yes. Open the app or your dashboard on esimy.net, buy more data, and it’s added to the current eSIM with nothing to rescan.
How do I get the eSIM onto my phone?
Buy online, with no ID, and the QR code reaches your inbox within moments. Then:
- Scan it on Wi-Fi in your phone’s eSIM settings; the night before you leave is ideal.
- Once you’ve landed, allow roaming on that line and pick it for mobile data.
- The APN sets itself, and the 7 or 30 days start from the first connection in Antigua.
Should I get an Antigua SIM card instead?
For a holiday, probably not. A local Antigua SIM card means finding a phone shop in St John’s during opening hours, possibly showing ID, and taking your home SIM out. The eSIM is set up before you leave. If you’re crewing on a yacht for the season or need a local number for work, a local SIM makes more sense.
Does the eSIM Antigua plan work on a yacht or a cruise ship?
In port and close to shore, yes, including English Harbour, Falmouth, Jolly Harbour marina and the piers in St John’s. Head a few miles out and the land signal fades. Keep your home SIM’s Data Roaming off at sea, because cruise ships run their own onboard network and its rates are steep. At the next island this plan won’t connect, so add our Guadeloupe eSIM or Barbados eSIM if your route stops there.
Is there signal on Barbuda and in the hills of Antigua?
On Antigua, mostly. The weak spots are the rainforest along Fig Tree Drive, the trail up Mount Obama and a few coves on the east coast. On Barbuda, Codrington has signal, but the long beaches and the lagoon can be patchy or offline. Download a map before you take the Barbuda Express ferry or the short flight over.
Will it work as soon as I land at V.C. Bird International Airport?
It should, provided you installed it before the flight. After touchdown, allow Data Roaming on the eSIM line. Most phones find FLOW within a minute or two, so you can message your villa or driver from the terminal.
Which network does it connect to in Antigua?
FLOW, the Cable & Wireless network, on 4G/LTE. It doesn’t switch to any other network on either island.
Does the eSIM Antigua plan come with a phone number?
You won’t get an Antigua number. The plan gives you mobile data only, so ordinary calls and SMS won’t work on it. WhatsApp or FaceTime calls are fine, and your own SIM can stay switched on in dual-SIM mode for texts and bank codes.
What is the best eSIM for Antigua and Barbuda?
For a holiday, a plan on a local network, sized to how long you’re staying. Ours connects to FLOW over 4G/LTE, covers both Antigua and Barbuda, and runs from a 1 GB, 7-day plan to 20 GB over 30 days. A short stay rarely needs the big sizes, since data here is priced well above European rates. It’s data only, with no local number.
