Before you buy your Dominica eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Dominica: FLOW data for the Nature Isle, not the Dominican Republic
Dominica is the small, mountainous island between Guadeloupe and Martinique, and an eSIM Dominica plan from Esimy connects there to FLOW’s 4G/LTE network.
That location matters, because Dominica and the Dominican Republic get confused constantly. They’re different countries, hundreds of kilometres apart, and this plan won’t connect in Punta Cana or Santo Domingo. If that’s where you’re going, you want our Dominican Republic eSIM instead.
On Dominica itself, FLOW’s signal is dependable in Roseau and along the west-coast road up to Portsmouth. Douglas-Charles Airport is covered too, though it’s on the northeast coast and well over an hour’s drive from the capital. The mountains are the catch. Gorges and valleys block signal, the road across the island has dead patches, and deep in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, on the way to the Boiling Lake, there’s usually none.
The Dominica eSIM gives you data, not a phone number, so calls go over WhatsApp and your home SIM stays on for bank texts. It’s sold without ID, and the days start when it first connects here. A Dominica SIM card is the better buy only if you’re staying for months, because getting one means a shop visit in Roseau and registering with ID.

Dominica Travel and Connectivity Guide
Good on the coast roads, gone in the deep valleys of the interior
Coverage areas
Roseau and the west-coast road are where FLOW is most reliable, running north through Mero and Salisbury to Portsmouth and south past Soufrière to Scotts Head. The area around Douglas-Charles Airport, near Marigot on the northeast coast, is covered as well. The trouble is everything in between. Dominica is a run of steep volcanic peaks and narrow river valleys, and signal can vanish for a few bends on the cross-island road, then come back on the next ridge. Inside Morne Trois Pitons National Park expect long dead stretches; on the Boiling Lake trail there’s usually nothing once you’ve left Titou Gorge and Laudat behind. On the east coast, villages in the Kalinago Territory have signal, but the road between them has gaps.
Network
Connects to FLOW (Cable & Wireless Dominica) on 4G/LTE and doesn’t switch to any other network. In Roseau, Portsmouth and the coastal villages it handles maps and WhatsApp calls well. Up in the mountains, terrain decides. A valley floor or a gorge can block signal completely, even a few kilometres outside town. There’s no throttling on our side; the signal where you stand and your phone set the speed.
How big an eSIM Dominica plan should be
• 1–3 GB: a cruise call in Roseau, or a week at an eco-lodge with Wi-Fi where the hiking days take you offline anyway
• 5–10 GB: two weeks with a hire car, split between Roseau and Portsmouth, with maps on every drive
• 20 GB: a month on the island, a dive trip with lots of video, or remote work over hotspot
Tourist highlights
The full-day hike to the Boiling Lake, a flooded fumarole that steams and churns at the far end of the Valley of Desolation (go with a guide). Trafalgar Falls, a short walk from the village of Trafalgar above Roseau, and a swim through the narrow walls of Titou Gorge. Snorkelling at Champagne Reef, where volcanic gas rises through the water in streams of bubbles, and the marine reserve at Scotts Head on the southern tip. A guided rowboat trip up the Indian River from Portsmouth, then Fort Shirley in Cabrits National Park. Sperm whales live off the west coast all year, so whale-watching trips leave Roseau regularly. Serious walkers can take on the Waitukubuli National Trail, which runs the length of the island in segments.
Apps that help
A hire car is the easiest way around, but the roads are narrow and winding, you drive on the left, and you’ll need a temporary local driving permit, which rental firms usually sort out at pickup. Save Dominica as an offline area in Google Maps or Maps.me before you leave Wi-Fi, because the valleys will cut you off mid-route. Minibuses run between Roseau and most villages in the daytime; they’re cheap but irregular and thin out in the evening and on Sundays. Most national park sites ask for an eco-site pass, so carry some cash. The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the currency, and US dollars are widely accepted. L’Express des Îles ferries to Guadeloupe and Martinique leave from Roseau; book online and keep the ticket where you can open it offline.
Roaming tips
Dominica isn’t part of any roam-like-at-home scheme, so EU, UK and North American contracts nearly always charge roaming here. Once the Esimy eSIM is installed, make it your mobile-data line and let it roam, but keep roaming off on your home SIM so it can’t run up a bill in the background. The plan covers Dominica only. If the ferry is taking you on to Guadeloupe, add our Guadeloupe eSIM for that leg, though a French home plan may already include it. Martinique needs its own cover too.
Why travelers choose Esimy Dominica
- FLOW 4G/LTE across Roseau, Portsmouth and the coastal villages
- No ID at checkout; install it on home Wi-Fi before you fly
- Validity starts on your first connection in Dominica, not the day you pay
- Hotspot allowed for a travel companion’s phone or a laptop at the lodge
- More data can be added in the app, on the same eSIM
Best time to visit
- January to May: the drier months, best for the Boiling Lake and longer sections of the Waitukubuli Trail
- The weeks before Lent: Carnival, known locally as Mas Domnik, peaking on the Monday and Tuesday
- Late October: the World Creole Music Festival in Roseau, followed by Independence Day on 3 November
- July to November: hurricane season, with heavy rain; trails and river crossings can close after storms

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Dominica
Will it work on the ferry to Guadeloupe or Martinique?
Only until you leave Dominica. L’Express des Îles sails from Roseau to both islands, and once you’re out at sea or ashore over there, this plan stops working. For Guadeloupe you can add our Guadeloupe eSIM; Martinique needs separate cover.
Which phones work?
Phones that support eSIM and aren’t locked to a carrier, which takes in recent iPhones along with a good number of Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel handsets. If you’re unsure about yours, the list of supported devices on our site has it.
Can a friend’s phone or my laptop use my data?
Hotspot is allowed, which helps at lodges where the Wi-Fi doesn’t reach your cabin.
Can I top up while I’m on the island?
Whenever you have signal or Wi-Fi. Add data from the app or your Esimy account and it goes onto your existing eSIM without a new QR code to scan.
How much data does an eSIM Dominica trip need, and is there unlimited data?
- A cruise stop in Roseau: 1 GB is plenty.
- A week of hiking, staying at lodges with Wi-Fi: around 3 GB.
- Two weeks with a hire car and lots of photos sent home: 5 to 10 GB.
Nothing here is unlimited. The ceiling is 20 GB over 30 days, with top-ups if even that runs out.
What are the steps to set up an eSIM Dominica plan?
After checkout (no ID asked) the QR code lands in your inbox. Scan it over Wi-Fi in your phone’s eSIM or cellular settings, ideally before you fly. When you land, turn on that line’s Data Roaming and make it the line for mobile data. The APN takes care of itself.
Is there signal on the Boiling Lake hike and in the rainforest?
Mostly no. Once you leave the Titou Gorge area at Laudat, expect to lose signal for most of the Boiling Lake trail, and the same goes for long sections of the Waitukubuli National Trail. Valleys anywhere on the island can block it. Hike with a guide, tell your accommodation your route and save offline maps the night before.
Will the eSIM Dominica plan work at Douglas-Charles Airport?
It should, once you turn the eSIM’s Data Roaming on in the arrivals hall. Do that before you set off. The road to Roseau winds through the mountains for well over an hour, with patches of no signal, so message your driver or your lodge while you still have a good connection.
Which network will I be on?
FLOW, on 4G/LTE. It’s the one network this eSIM uses on the island, so there’s nothing to switch to when a valley blocks the signal.
Does the Dominica eSIM include a local number?
It doesn’t. You get data with no Dominica number, calls or SMS. Guides, drivers and guesthouses often arrange things on WhatsApp, which works fine over data.
Is this the same as an eSIM for the Dominican Republic?
No. Dominica is a small English-speaking island in the eastern Caribbean, between Guadeloupe and Martinique. The Dominican Republic shares Hispaniola with Haiti, much further west. This plan works only in Dominica, so for Punta Cana, Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata use our Dominican Republic eSIM.
What is the best eSIM for Dominica?
Check the country first, because plenty of searches for Dominica are really about the Dominican Republic. For Dominica itself, our plan uses FLOW’s 4G/LTE network in Roseau, Portsmouth and along the coasts, with plans ranging from a 7-day 1 GB to a 30-day 20 GB. It’s data only, needs no ID, and the validity starts on your first connection on the island.
