Before you buy your Ivory Coast eSIM
Is my phone compatible?
Quick check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
How much data do I need?
A rough estimate based on typical use. Video and hotspot use the most data.
eSIM Ivory Coast: Orange 4G for Abidjan, Grand-Bassam and Assinie
Most people looking for an eSIM Ivory Coast plan are flying into Abidjan for work, and Abidjan is where Orange’s 4G network in Côte d’Ivoire is at its strongest.
Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport is in Port-Bouët, on the city’s southern edge. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and switch on its data roaming after landing, and you can book a Yango or Heetch before you reach the exit. Across the lagoon, the Plateau, Cocody, Treichville, Marcory and Zone 4 all get strong coverage.
Weekends tend to mean the coast. Grand-Bassam and Assinie are well covered, as are Yamoussoukro and San-Pédro. The far west is different. Around Man the hills block the signal in places, and deep inside Taï National Park you shouldn’t expect any.
This Ivory Coast eSIM carries data only, which means no Ivorian number, no calls or SMS and no Orange Money or Wave. Use WhatsApp or Teams for calls and keep your home SIM on for texts. Staying for months on assignment? Then a registered local SIM makes more sense. Shorter trips can take anything up to 20 GB, valid for 30 days, or the 1 GB plan for a week, and more data can be added later without a new QR code.

Ivory Coast Travel and Connectivity Guide
Abidjan first, then the coast and the interior: what to expect
Coverage areas
Abidjan is where the signal is best. The Plateau business district, Cocody and the Riviera neighbourhoods, Treichville, Marcory and Zone 4, Port-Bouët around the airport and the bridges over the Ébrié Lagoon all get good 4G. Grand-Bassam, Bingerville and the road east to Assinie are generally well served, and so are Yamoussoukro, Bouaké and San-Pédro. Coverage weakens in the western mountains around Man and on minor roads in the centre and north. Inside Taï National Park, plan for none.
Network
In Côte d’Ivoire the eSIM connects to Orange on 4G/LTE and to no other network. In Abidjan you’ll rarely notice any limits. Out west it’s another story: the hills around Man and the forest roads towards Taï bring slower data and gaps between villages. Esimy doesn’t slow your connection down, so any slowness comes from the local signal or the handset in your pocket.
Data usage tips
• 1–3 GB: three or four days of Abidjan meetings with email, maps and Yango
• 5–10 GB: a stay of up to three weeks with a weekend in Assinie or Grand-Bassam, video calls and photo uploads
• 20 GB: a long assignment, daily Teams calls over hotspot, or several devices on one plan
Tourist highlights
Grand-Bassam, east of Abidjan along the coast, was the colonial capital, and its old quarter of faded colonial buildings is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Further east, Assinie is Abidjan’s weekend beach, a long strip of sand between the lagoon and the Atlantic. In the city itself, the Plateau skyline looks best from across the lagoon, and the Treichville market is worth an hour. Yamoussoukro’s Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is one of the largest churches in the world. Out west, Man has waterfalls and the Dent de Man peak, and Taï National Park protects one of the last large areas of primary rainforest in West Africa.
Apps that help
Yango and Heetch are the ride apps visitors use most in Abidjan, and they spare you a fare negotiation late at night. Shared woro-woro taxis and gbaka minibuses cost less but take some getting used to. Across the city Google Maps is reliable, although addresses usually go by landmark, so drop a pin for your hotel and your office. Mobile money (Orange Money, Wave) covers a lot of everyday spending, but it needs a registered local number. Plan on cards at hotels and larger restaurants and CFA francs (XOF) in cash for the rest. French is the language of business and of daily life.
eSIM Ivory Coast vs roaming
On most home plans, a week of ordinary data use in Côte d’Ivoire costs a lot, since the country is far outside the EU roaming area. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. Once you’re through to arrivals, switch the Esimy line’s Data Roaming on and make it the mobile-data line. Calls and bank codes can still come through on your home SIM, with its own data roaming off. The eSIM works in Côte d’Ivoire only. Driving across to Ghana at Noé, or flying on to Dakar? Switch to our eSIM for Ghana or eSIM for Senegal.
Why travelers choose Esimy Ivory Coast
- Online in arrivals at Félix-Houphouët-Boigny, ready to book a ride into town
- No passport scan and no SIM registration desk
- Orange 4G/LTE across Abidjan and the main towns
- Validity waits for your first connection in Côte d’Ivoire
- Share data with a laptop, and top up later without a new QR code
Best time to visit
- December to March: the main dry season on the coast, hot and humid but with far less rain; harmattan haze reaches the north
- May to July: the long rains, with heavy downpours in Abidjan that can flood roads and slow traffic to a crawl
- August and September: a drier break in the south, before a shorter rainy spell in October and November

eSIM FAQs
Common questions about using eSIM in Ivory Coast
Does the eSIM also work in Ghana or Senegal?
It stops at the Ivorian border. For Ghana, take our Ghana eSIM; for Dakar and the rest of Senegal, our Senegal eSIM.
Is an Ivory Coast SIM card a better option for visitors?
Usually not, unless you’re staying for months. To register a local SIM card in Côte d’Ivoire you need your passport, a stop at an operator’s shop and some paperwork. A local SIM does make sense for long assignments, or if you need an Ivorian number for mobile money and local contacts.
Which phones support it?
Unlocked, eSIM-capable phones, recent iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models among them. A phone bought on contract may be locked to one carrier, so look yours up on our list of supported devices first.
Is laptop tethering allowed?
You can tether on any plan, which is handy when hotel Wi-Fi slows down in the evening. Turn off automatic cloud syncing on the laptop first, or the data won’t last long.
What’s enough data for an Abidjan business trip? Any unlimited plan?
For a week of meetings with email, maps and Yango, 3 GB is usually enough. Video calls every day, or a laptop tethered to your phone, push you towards 10 or 20 GB. Unlimited plans aren’t offered for Ivory Coast, but top-ups cover you once the 20 GB plan runs out.
Is topping up possible while I’m in Abidjan?
Whenever you like, from the Esimy dashboard or the app. No new QR code is needed; the data simply joins your existing eSIM.
Installing an eSIM for Côte d’Ivoire: what are the steps?
- Pay online; there’s no ID step, and the QR code is emailed as soon as you’ve paid.
- Scan it over Wi-Fi under Settings, then Cellular or Mobile, then Add eSIM.
- On arrival, enable Data Roaming on the eSIM line and choose it as your data line. The APN is automatic.
- Validity starts with that first connection in Côte d’Ivoire.
How is coverage in Man, Taï National Park and the north?
Patchy once you leave the towns. Man itself has signal, but the surrounding hills and the roads out to the waterfalls have weak spots, and inside Taï National Park you should assume there’s nothing. In the north, Korhogo and the bigger towns are generally covered while the roads between them are patchier. Before any drive out of Abidjan, get the offline maps downloaded.
Is eSIM Ivory Coast ready at Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Airport in Abidjan?
Provided you installed it before the flight, it is. Turn on Data Roaming for the Esimy line after landing in Port-Bouët and it picks up Orange inside the terminal, so you can message your driver before you’re through arrivals.
Which network does eSIM Ivory Coast use?
Orange Côte d’Ivoire, on 4G/LTE. That’s the only network it uses.
Is there an Ivory Coast eSIM with a phone number?
We don’t sell one. With a data-only plan, Orange Money and Wave are out too. Most of your contacts in Abidjan will be on WhatsApp, and texts and bank codes still reach your home SIM.
What is the best eSIM for Ivory Coast?
Abidjan coverage is the test, because that’s where most visitors spend their days. Ours runs on Orange Côte d’Ivoire 4G/LTE and comes as a QR code by email with no ID check. It lasts 7 days on 1 GB or 30 days on 3 to 20 GB, counted from the day it first connects. You can tether a laptop and add data later. Around Man or in Taï, expect weaker signal.
